How to Be a Successful Christian Blogger

Many people would look at my blog and say that I am NOT a successful blogger. Why would they think that? Here are a few reasons:

-Most of my posts have less than 50 lifetime views.

-I don’t have comments flooding every post.

-I don’t do SEO on all of my posts. 

-I don’t have thousands of followers on social media. 

-I am not receiving donations on Patreon.

-No famous person reads my blog.

And on and on I could go…

When I first started blogging, I was all about growing my readership. Views, views, and more views. Check my stats every day. Post my blog on social media like crazy. I would comment on other blogs, but not because I wanted to read their stuff. I just wanted them to read mine.

Anything to get a view, I would do it!

But then I realized that I was writing for my own pride, and God wasn’t going to honor that.

But then this also hit me: even if I got more more views, that did NOT mean that God was honoring my blog! So fellow Christian bloggers, let me ask you something.

When did we start defining success as reaching large amounts of people? 

If this is what success is, then I imagine that most of our blogs are unsuccessful! Now of course, I’m not saying it’s wrong to reach lots of people, but I am saying that reach isn’t equivalent to success.

Despite the facts I shared above, I still consider my blog to be successful. This is because success to me is loving and glorifying God in all that I do. And I do this with my blog to the best of my ability.

In light of this, I have specific 3 ways to be a successful Christian blogger according to this definition of success. These are three things that I try to keep in mind when I write posts.

1. Write as an act of worship.

The process of praying, meditating, writing and editing a post is something I do to glorify God and enjoy the gifts that He has given me. We should give thanks that God has given us this opportunity to share with others!

2. Write in a way that helps you grow spiritually.

I also try to write about things that are helpful to me in my walk with Christ. I purposefully choose topics that I need to work on and challenge myself to apply in my life. I’m always amazed at how much I learn and grow through the medium of writing out my thoughts.

3. Write to help at least one other person.

It’s not about the numbers for me anymore. The way I look at it now, if one person is helped, encouraged, taught or built up by my writing, then it’s all worth it. And even if zero people read it, I would still view my blog as successful because of 1 and 2.

There are days where I put effort into a post and get little return in views, and that can certainly be discouraging. But at the same time, if in my writing I seek to love God and love others, then I know that I am a successful Christian blogger in God’s eyes.

And that’s what really matters to me.

  3. That was awesome and very honest!!!💖💖💖💖 I’m a blogger on here too and I have had those same thoughts and if you just reach someone through Christ then that’s the true success not how many likes you get💖💖

Great Post and as a beginner blogger, it was most helpful reading your suggestions, some of it sounded like a foreign language (lifetime views, SEO, Patreon, and if a famous person read my blog, I wouldn’t know.) LOL! Wishing you the best on your journey! For me also, it is about Glorifying God! Blessings!

  7. I am a new blogger here and honestly I still don’t really know what I am doing I just let God lead me as to what to write. I have fun doing it I have been reading my devotions and giving my input about them, I also have been putting in my blog about my life and my every day adventures hoping maybe for some input on parenting or becoming closer with the Lord. It’s fun so far haha even though I probably don’t have anyone reading I still have fun writing down whats going on in my head haha. Reading this post has helped me. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
